Block Party Information

Did you know your neighborhood can apply to block off your street to vehicular traffic for a social gathering? In compliance with Los Altos Municipal Code Section 9.25.040 - Special Events, you may apply for and obtain a Block Party Permit. The application must be filed a minimum of ten (10) business days prior, but no more than a year before the scheduled Block Party.

If your block party participants exceed one hundred fifty (150) or more persons, the applicant shall submit a neighborhood letter or petition in favor of the event. 

Block Party Permits are free!  There are two methods to apply: 

  1. Download the Block Party Application (PDF) and email or fax to (650) 947-2704 -OR-
  2. Complete the questions below and press the "Submit" button

Los Altos Police Records staff will notify the Block Party Organizer, Municipal Services Center (MSC) and Santa Clara County Fire once the Block Party Permit is approved. Any questions, contact Records at (650) 947-2770 Monday-Friday 8:00AM - 5:00PM.

Block Party Rules

Please read the block party rules and check the box below to agree.

  • Street closure materials such as barricades, A-frames, flashing lights and cones are included in the Block Party Permit. Instructions for request barricades and cones will be provided once the Block Party Permit is approved.  
  • Flashing lights may be omitted if the street is re-opened prior to sunset. 
  • No open fires on street.
  • Avoid congregating near fire hydrants.
  • Amplified sound to be kept at a reasonable level so not to intrude on the privacy of surrounding residents and required by Los Altos Municipal Code Section 6.16.070(B)(2) to be turned off by 10:00PM.
  • Area to be left clean with all trash and debris removed upon completion of your activity.
  • No fireworks are permitted.
  • Any liability associated with this block party is the responsibility of the applicant and/or organization.
  • If the number of guests exceeds one hundred fifty (150) people, a neighborhood letter or petition in favor of the event is required.
