The City of Los Altos contracts with the City of Palo Alto for animal services and control. Below are highlights which outline the handling of animals and response of Palo Alto Animal Services to the Los Altos community, including regular business hours and contact information.

Services Provided by Palo Alto Animal Control
- Controlling vicious, attacking, or injured dogs and cats
- Veterinary care for injured stray dogs and cats
- Impoundment of confined, stray dogs and cats: Residents can bring confined, stray dogs and cats to Animal Services during regular hours, or have them picked up any day between 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
- Disposal of dead stray animals (including wildlife): Animal Control will pick up dead stray animals weighing up to 100 lbs. Note: If the animal is on private property, San Jose Tallow Works will pick up deer for a fee and can be reached at (408) 452-8777.
Note: Animal Control Officers cannot respond to calls for cats in trees. Some private tree services will provide this service for a fee.

Vector Control of Santa Clara County: Vector Control is available to assist residents with skunks, rats, opossums, raccoons, and bats. Vector Control can be reached at 1-800-675-1155, weekdays only. Note: It is illegal to trap and relocate wildlife without a permit.
Injured Wildlife: Residents can deliver injured wildlife to the Wildlife Rescue Center, 4000 Middlefield Road, #V, Palo Alto. Phone: (650) 494-7283.
