Contesting a Parking Citation
If you wish to contest your citation you must do so within 30 days from the date you received the ticket. Download the Parking Citation Contest Form and submit to the Police Department Records Division along with a copy of the citation. Once the form is filed, your grievance will be reviewed and a letter will be sent with the results. Note: If you submit your contest form after 30 days, your time to contest the ticket has expired and a late fee will be added to your original fine.
Requesting a Hearing
Once you receive your letter and are found liable you may request a hearing to be heard in person, by mail or phone. Your citation must be paid in full before you will be granted a hearing. A letter confirming the date and time of your hearing will be mailed to you, including information to prepare you for your hearing. All hearings are held on the third Tuesday of the month at the Police Department.
Meeting with Hearing Examiner
The Hearing Examiner will be given a folder with a copy of your parking citation, paperwork submitted by you and the issuing officer. You may bring a witness, photographs, or other evidence that may help you defend your case. The hearing officer will ask you a series of questions and will make a decision based on the facts of the case. Hearings last from 15-30 minutes. If you are not present when the hearing officer calls your name at your scheduled time, you will be held liable.
After the Hearing Exam
You will receive a letter advising of the hearing examiner decision within 3-5 days. If the hearing examiner rules in your favor you will be refunded the full amount of your parking citation and a check will be mailed to you within 10 days.
