The City of Los Altos Named the 35th Safest City in America

Los Altos, Calif. – February 14, 2014 – The City of Los Altos was recently named the 35th safest city in America by Location, Inc.

“It is an honor to be named one of the top 100 safest cities in America,” said Tuck Younis, Los Altos Police Chief, “This honor reflects the dedication of our police force and the partnership that exists between police and the Los Altos community.”

Location, Inc. is the creator of the neighborhood research site NeighborhoodScout.com.  The website provides geographic research and location specific data in areas of crime, school quality, home value trends, and more.

Each year, NeighborhoodScout publishes a list of the top 100 Safest Cities in America.  This is calculated on cities with a population of 25,000 or more, and based on the total number of crimes per 1,000 residents.  Crime data used in this calculation is provided by the FBI and includes all UCR (Uniform Crime Report) crimes.  UCR data used in this study reflects the calendar year 2012, which is the most recent and fully vetted data available.

Of the fifteen cities located within Santa Clara County, Los Altos along with Saratoga are the only cities to be included in this list of 100 Safest Cities in America.  This is a distinction that all Los Altans can be proud of.

The mission of the City of Los Altos staff, council, commissions, committees and volunteers is to foster and maintain the City of Los Altos as a great place to live and to raise a family. For more information about the City of Los Altos, please visit www.losaltosca.gov.
