PG&E Community Pipeline Safety Initiative

Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) is undertaking a Community Pipeline Safety Initiative in the City of Los Altos, in addition to several neighboring cities. This safety initiative seeks to ensure first responders and safety crews have immediate access to natural gas transmission pipelines in case of an emergency.

PG&E is in the process of reviewing structures, trees and brush located near the gas pipeline which may have the potential to block emergency access for first responders or damage the pipeline. For any tree or structure that needs to be replaced for safety reasons, PG&E will work with the property owner to develop a plan that balances the need for public safety with the need to preserve the character and natural beauty of the community.

The City is in the process of retaining an arborist who will work with PG&E to further evaluate City trees to determine if the trees can remain in place with regular monitoring or need to be removed. This process is anticipated to begin in early December 2015.
